Mürren is located in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, perched on a plateau at an altitude of approximately 5,413 feet (1,650 meters) above sea level. Its elevated position offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including the iconic Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau peaks.

The village is car-free, adding to its charm and tranquillity. To explore the area, you can rely on your own two feet, use the efficient public transportation system, or rent bicycles, which are readily available.

Best Time to Visit Mürren, Switzerland

Mürren is a year-round destination, each season offering a unique and breath-taking experience. However, the best time to visit depends on your personal preferences and what you want to do during your trip and we visited this alpine village during Christmas in winter.

If you're a fan of winter sports, then the snowy months from December to March are perfect for you. Mürren transforms into a winter wonderland during these months, offering excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities. The slopes cater to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, and the stunning alpine views will leave you in awe.

For outdoor enthusiasts who prefer milder temperatures and blooming landscapes, spring and summer (April to September) are the ideal times to visit. We visited this beautiful village during winter and we cannot wait to go back again in another season

One of the main reasons why Mürren is so enchanting in winter is its proximity to the Jungfrau region. How to Get to Mürren, Switzerland

Getting to Mürren is an adventure in itself, but rest assured, the journey is well worth it. The closest major airports to Mürren are Zurich Airport and Geneva Airport. From there, you can take a train to Interlaken, a picturesque town located at the foot of the Swiss Alps.


Once in Interlaken, you can take a scenic train ride to Lauterbrunnen, followed by a cable car or funicular ride to Mürren. This route offers breathtaking views of the valley and is highly recommended for nature lovers.

We were staying in Merligen, so we drove to interlaken and took the funicular ride to Mürren. It costs around 24 CHF/person for a two-way ride.

When planning your trip to Mürren, there are a few things to consider to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Firstly, decide on the duration of your stay. Mürren is a small village, but there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, so it's recommended to spend at least a 2 days exploring or you can also stay in Lauterbrunnen or any other Swiss village in the surrounding and do a day trip to Mürren,

Next, create an itinerary based on your interests and the activities you want to experience.


Don't forget to check the weather forecast before your trip, as the conditions can change rapidly in the mountains. Pack accordingly, with layers and proper outdoor gear, to ensure you stay comfortable throughout your stay.
